Volunteering with Women in Aid & Development

 

Volunteers & Interns govern and manage Women in Aid & Development (WiAD), they deliver events and services to members and supporters and are responsible for a range of roles and tasks which are described below. 

In turn WiAD provides Volunteers & Interns with induction, training, guidance and support to create a worthwhile and rewarding experience and enhance their career prospects. 

WiAD  asks that all Volunteers & Interns work cooperatively to create a consultative and collaborative environment that people are happy and proud to be part of.

All Roles at Women in Aid & Development

Communications Interns

Communications Interns are appointed for a six-month assignment twice each year. They take responsibility for creating and curating content across multiple channels and providing administrative support and reports to the program Committees. In turn interns gain first-hand experience that helps develop skills in digital marketing, copywriting and communications.

CRM Support Volunteer

WiAD is developing a CRM to manage our communications and programs. We have done this with support from a CRM support volunteer with expertise in HubSpot management and welcome others with HubSpot expertise.

Event Leadership Committee

Volunteers are based in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney and bring local knowledge and insights to help deliver events face to face and online.

Members meet by teleconference to consider and agree topics for networking events, suggest speakers, facilitate discussions, help to secure speakers and venues. They attend the events to welcome participants, organise food and drinks, welcome attendees and to host breakout rooms for online events.

One person is selected from the event leadership committee in each city to be city leader and facilitator of face-to-face discussions.

Website Support

Responsible for some technical aspects of the website, ensuring it is coherent and content aligns with programs. Sets up registration and payment gateways.

Website Design Refresh Project

WiAD website was built in Squarespace some time ago and needs a refresh - do you have web design skills to undertake a short project to advise us on how to revise, refine and update our website?

We’re looking for a volunteer with experience in graphic and user interface design of websites and ideally has created and designed functional, attractive websites.

Mentoring Committee

Oversees the Mentoring Program on behalf of the Board. It works to match mentors with mentees to provide women working in the sector or planning to work in the sector with support and encouragement to advance their careers and position themselves for leadership roles.

The program also delivers benefits to mentors who expand their network of sector leaders, develop more leadership skills, build relational management skills, raise their sector profile and give support to other emerging leaders. 

Volunteers with significant experience in Mentoring join directors to develop and implement the program.

Communications Committee

Oversees the communications activities including support of the communications Interns who primarily create and curate content use across Women in Aid & Development’s website, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. 

Content may relate to international development, management, and leadership in the context of women and girls. Promoting both WiAD and the work of our member-organisations, distinguishing useful information for our members and creativity to share stories about work emanating from our sector and members.

Volunteers with significant experience in Communications, PR, Social/Digital Media  join directors to develop and implement the program.

Volunteer Organiser

WiAD has around 28 volunteers at any time responsible for around 45 roles so recruitment, briefing, inducting ( where appropriate) and coordinating volunteers requires support of a volunteer with  good organisational and excellent communication competencies.
